The proposed panel takes as its starting point the analysis of urban mobilities in the Global South and its planning, especially its impacts differentiated by gender issues that end up discriminating and strengthening models often planned from an androcentric and productivist vision . The panel proposes to put the mobilities of women (with all their diversity) in various African cities, the experiences, the discriminations and the resilience and resistance strategies they implement, at the center of analysis. Taking African cities as a context, this panel proposes the following lines of discussion: – Daily mobilities and journeys in terms of gender: experiences, uses, needs and discrimination. – Experiences and imaginaries about urban travel. – Strategies and forms of resilience, resistance and empowerment – Strategies and experiences for urban mobility planning with a gender and diversity perspective – Research methodologies and experiences and applied research with a gender perspective in African cities<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Metropolises, cities and public spaces are not neutral, people experience them, feel them and appropriate them in different ways. To understand cities from the point of view of complexity, it is necessary to incorporate the perspective of gender and diversity when understanding everyday life, care (P\u00e9rez, 2014), power relations, discrimination and the forms of resistance that arise. Urban mobilities are not exempt from these dynamics. As happens in other areas, everyday mobility is a particularly relevant area when it comes to understanding how relationships and forms of domination materialize that pivot on the gender axis. Women’s daily mobilities (Jir\u00f3n, 2010) take on specific forms and are often not taken into account in urban planning and governance, which affects women’s access to certain urban services and, thus, the exercise of rights such as education, health, political and civic participation, or at work. A key element in relation to mobilities is the perception of insecurity (Soto, 2012) and violence against women in public spaces and transport.
